This week’s big news was the state budget, HB 1.
The budget was passed by the Senate; however, since there are substantial differences in appropriations, the bill has been referred to Conference Committee.
The following five representatives were appointed to represent the House in the conference negotiations: Rep. Zerwas (Chair), Rep. G. Bonnen, Rep. S. Davis, Rep. Longoria, and Rep. Walle.
The Senate has not appointed conferees, yet.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed HB 2255, relating to infant hearing screening. The bill has been received in the Senate and awaits referral to committee.
On Thursday, the Senate passed HB 1101, a bill that changes the name from Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf to Southwest College for the Deaf. On Friday, the House signed the bill.
The TSD Lady Rangers were honored by the House and Senate on Wednesday. Senator Kirk Watson sponsored SR 512. Representative Eddie Rodriguez sponsored HR 1076. View the Senate video HERE. View the House video HERE.
Next Tuesday, April 16, the House Human Services Committee will take up HB 1564, regarding support services to persons who are deaf blind.
The Senate Education Committee will be hearing HB 3, public school finance, on Tuesday, April 16th.
