Things are moving a bit quicker under the pink dome.
On Monday, the Senate passed Senator Bettencourt’s SB 2, which would increase the revenue cap for cities and counties while keeping the school district caps at 2.5 percent.
Also on Monday, HB 1101, a bill that changes the name from Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf to Southwest College for the Deaf, was passed by both chambers and currently awaits the Governor’s signature.
On Wednesday, the Senate passed SB 895, regarding ERCOD/HHSC partnership to data collect language acquisition of kids eight years old and under.
Last week, the House appointed conferees to the HB 1 (State Budget) Conference Committee. On Wednesday, the Senate named the following conferees: Sen. Nelson (Chair), Sen. Huffman, Sen. Kolkhorst, Sen. Nichols, Sen. Taylor. The conference committee is scheduled to meet at 10 AM, Tuesday, April 23rd.
The House and Senate also appointed conferees to the supplemental budget bill, SB 500. They are as follows: Sen. Nelson (Chair), Sen. Hinojosa, Sen. Huffman, Sen. Kolkhorst, Sen. Taylor, Rep. Zerwas (Chair), Rep. Capriglione, Rep. Mary Gonzalez, Rep. R. Miller, Rep. Rose.
Next Tuesday, April 23rd at 8 AM, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee will hear testimony on HB 2255, relating to infant hearing screening.
Senate Nominations Committee has scheduled a confirmation hearing for appointed TSD Governing Board members on April 25th, 2019 at 9AM.
